TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
Ensuring compliance for a smooth entry into your destination country.
IT IS NECESSARY TO BE IN POSSESSION OF CERTAIN DOCUMENTS TO EMBARK TO ANOTHER CITY OR COUNTRY
Identity card
The identity card valid for expatriation is sufficient to travel to countries that apply the Schengen agreements.
Please note: Starting from 3 August 2026, the Italian paper identity card will no longer be valid for international travel, regardless of the expiry date indicated on the document. We kindly ask all passengers travelling abroad to check well in advance that they hold a valid travel document, such as an Electronic Identity Card (CIE), where accepted by the destination country, or a valid passport.
Passport
The passport is required for travel to most countries in the world.
Passengers with an electronic passport, who are at least 12 years old, citizens of EU, EEA and CH countries or citizens of one of the third countries listed below, are allowed to use the e-gates of Milano Linate.

e-Gates Use for Arrivals
Always consult the website www.viaggiaresicuri.it for more information and details on the documents and visas required for your trip.
For more information on the procedure for issuing a passport in Italy, consult the portal of the State Police.
Other documents: ESTA, eTA, ETA-IL and ETA
To go to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program, it is mandatory to complete the ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) form online. For more information, consult the US Embassy, the Department of the United States of America, the Polizia di Stato, the Department of Foreign Affairs or Viaggiare Sicuri.
To go to Canada, on the other hand, it is essential to have the eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) form, which can only be requested online. The eTA is electronically linked to your passport with a validity of five years or until the passport expires.
Starting from January 1st, 2025, travelers heading to Israel will be required to obtain an ETA-IL authorization. The ETA-IL is a mandatory online authorization for tourists of all ages, costing 25 NIS and valid for up to 2 years. Without an ETA-IL, entry to Israel will be denied. Visit this link for more information and to apply.
Starting from April 2, 2025, European Union citizens will need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) to enter the United Kingdom. The ETA can be applied for online or via an app starting from March 5, 2025. The ETA will be valid for 2 years and allows visitors to stay in the UK for up to 6 months, entering by air, land, or sea. The cost will be £10.00. It will be issued approximately within 3 working days from the application.
For more information, visit the UK Government website.
