Family Friendly Airport: a new initiative to ensure a smooth take-off: Pet Therapy

Pet Therapy

SEA re-introduces the Pet Therapy initiative to the airports of Milano Malpensa and Milano Linate. This project, carried out in association with NPO Associazione Animali Terapeuti, will run during the summer, Christmas and Easter holidays of 2017 and 2018 and is designed to reduce flight anxiety and make travel more pleasant and relaxing.

The initiative forms part of Family Friendly Airport, an SEA project to provide special services to families taking off on their travels. The first summer dates: 13 July at Malpensa Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 and 14 July at Linate. In the gate areas of the Milan airports our four-legged friends made the wait before boarding extra special for children (and adults too).

The event proved very popular with travellers, particularly children who, together with the volunteers of NPO Associazione Animali Terapeuti, were able spend some time playing with the little animals. Pet Therapy has a positive psychological effect on our mood, our self-esteem and our self-control, and reduces anxiety, stress and insomnia in both children and adult travellers.

This is why Pet Therapy, an initiative that is already firmly established and popular in many American airports, is being trialled in the airports of Milan: to reduce the fear of flying and make the wait at the gate more pleasurable.
